New Delhi, Jan 4 (UNI) The BJP today expressed shock over the decision of the Income Tax Appallate Tribunal putting a stamp of legitimacy by accepting Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati's contention that the huge cash and properties in her name was gifted by her admirers and demanded that there should be no effort to stop the IT Department from preferring an appeal.
BJP spokesman Ravishankar Prasad terming the news reports to this effect as 'disturbing' said order of the Tribunal would tantamount to putting premium on corruption in the country.
''The IT department must challenge and there should be no hurdles from the Government to question this 'vulnerable order'.
This order will not just benifit the person facing Disproportioinate Assets case but host of corrupt politicians and officials justifying their corrupt earnings by claiming that it was a 'gift' from their fan club,'' the spokeman said.
The reports said the Tribunal had felt that the BSP supporters could inflict financial burden on themselves out of 'love and affection' for a leader working for the upliftment of downtrodden in the missionary manner.
