Hydro Power policy modified for involving private sector:Govt
New Delhi, Jan 3 (UNI) The government today modified the hydro power policy for providing impetus to the development of hydel power projects in the private sector in the North-east and the Himalayan states.
The decision, taken at a Cabinet meeting, would ensure that the initiative for allocation of projects remains with the state governments.
The scrutiny by the regulator and Central Electricity Authority would enable the designing and construction of projects in the most optimal and economic manner, Information and Broadcasting Minister Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi told reporters.
The move would also protect the interest of consumers.
The modification would reduce the numerous risks associated with construction of hydro projects and help in expeditious development of hydro potential through involvement of the private sector, he said.
