Group on climate change adaptation to be set up: Sibal
Visakhapatnam, Jan 3 (UNI) The Government will set up a Group on Climate Change Adaptation to proactively prepare for providing technology required to address the problem of ''adjustment'', Science and Technology and Earth Sciences Minister Kapil Sibal said today.
''We are also establishing a Centre for Climate Change, initially to be located within the campus of Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology, Pune, to address the scientific issues related to global warming and climate change,'' Mr Sibal said on the opening day of the 95th Indian Science Congress, whose theme is 'Knowledge Based Society Using Environmentally Sustainable Science and Technology'.
He said the weather forecasting facilities in the Indian Meteorological Department would be modernised to a state-of-the-art system that would deliver this year a dedicated weather channel and agro-advisories at district level.
To involve the private sector in policy formulation, the Minister said, he had taken FICCI's help in drafting an 'innovation law'.
''I hope to bring this draft for the consideration of the Government within this year itself,'' he added.
