Farmers on picnic to Kanniyakumari caught ticketless
Kanniyakumari, Jan 3 (UNI) As many as 7,000 farmers from North India, who converged at Rameswaram on December 31 for a rally were caught ticketless here this morning.
Railway sources said the farmers arrived here on a picnic.
Though the officials demanded them to pay for the tickets, they repeatedly stated that they had no money and had come all the way from Punjab, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh to participate in the farmers' rally organised by the Kisan Coordination Committee.
Earlier, the farmers were caught at Chennai for ticketless travel and considering their predicament, the authorities allowed them to proceed to Rameswaram to attend the rally.
