DGP releases sketch of suspected criminal

Malappuram, Jan 3 (UNI) Kerala Director General of Police (DGP) Raman Shrivastava today released a sketch of the suspected criminal, who masterminded the robbery at the Chelembra branch of the South Malabar Gramin Bank in the district.

Talking to newspersons after visiting the bank, he said investigation into the case was on the right direction.

Senior officers, including Inspector General of Police Vijayanand, were also present.

Gold worth Rs eight crores pledged by customers and Rs 24 lakh in cash were looted from the ''strong room'' of the bank, housed in the first floor of the building.

The incident was brought to light when the bank staff opened the office on the morning of January 1.

According to preliminary investigation, the robbers had entered the bank office through a hole made on the roof of the hotel functioning in the ground floor of the building.
