Cold wave fury continues in UP, toll climbs to 71
Lucknow, Jan 3 (UNI) The Cold wave continued unabated in Uttar Pradesh with the toll mounting to 71 this season, following six overnight deaths.
The fresh casualties, comprising three in Agra, two in Mainpuri and one in Kaushambi.
According to the met department, a remarkable dip was recorded in the night temperatures at Agra and Meerut divisions, while the temperature plunged to several degrees below normal at other places in the state.
Meanwhile, rail, road and air traffic continued to be affected due to dense fog during early and late hrs.
Taj City was the coldest in UP at minimum temperature of 3 degrees Celsius, which was four degrees below normal.
The weatherman has forecast a dry weather during next 24 hrs.
The biting cold wave has thrown normal life out of gear since last couple of days.
Lucknowites, however, greeted a bright and sunny morning today.
In Agra, the district administration had ordered the closure of schools, upto XII standard, till January 5.
Besides, bonfire arrangements had been made at various places for the destitute.
