Tension in Jawhar over youth's murder

Thane, Jan 2 (UNI) Tension continued to prevail in Jawhar town following the murder of a youth on New Year's day.

Following the murder, there was arson in the town and additional police force and SRP platoons had to be rushed in from district headquarters to combat the situation.

A total 'bandh' was observed in the town today, on a call by the Shiv Sena to condemn the murder of the youth.

The youth was murdered during a circus show. Some boys had disturbed the other spectators by whistling during the show, to which a section of the spectators objected. When the show got over, these gooves beat up those who had objected to their behaviour.

Gopal Ganesh Chowdhury (32), who was beaten up and was grievously hurt, succumbed to his injuries at the hospital later.

The police, meanwhile, have arrested three people in connection with the murder.
