SP wins Ballia Lok Sabha bypoll
Ballia/Lucknow, Jan 2 (UNI) Opposition Samajwadi Party candidate and son of former Prime Minister Chandra Shekhar, Neeraj Shekhar, today won the Ballia Lok Sabha seat, defeating his nearest BSP rival Vinay Shankar Tiwari in the December 29 bypoll, results of which were declared today.
Mr Shekhar, after the 12 rounds of counting, was leading by a massive 81,391 votes over Mr Tiwari -- the son of former UP Minister and strongman Hari Shankar Tiwari.
The BJP and the Congress were coming third and fourth respectively.
The Ballia seat fell vacant following the demise of sitting MP Chandra Shekhar.
An estimated 38 per cent polling was recorded for the Ballia Lok Sabha by-election on December 29.
