Police have controlled Maoist activities in AP: DGP

Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh, Jan 2 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Director General of Police S S P Yadav today claimed that Maoist activities in the State have been contained to a large extent as a result of the effective measures taken by the police.

Addressing a press conference here, after reviewing the crime situation with police officials of East Godavari district, he said that when compared to other naxal-infested States, the situation in Andhra Pradesh was by and large satisfactory and the strength of Maoists was dwindling.

''The Maoists were creating trouble for the last four decades.

Due to the concerted efforts of our police force, the problem has been contained to a large extent. However, there is no scope for complacency. Our force is always on alert,'' he remarked.

On the modernisation of police force with weapons and training to combat various difficult situations, Mr Yadav said it was a continuous process and the Government was keen on strengthening the police.

About the ineffective functioning of the six marine police stations in the State, he said all the initial problems were over and people would feel the real impact soon.
