Police arrest 24 workers of Bhusan Steels

Sambalpur, Jan 2 (UNI) Police arrested 24 workers for looting and ransacking their company, Bhusan Steels and Power, which was facing production loss since Saturday's violence.

The irate workers had set fire to the property of the factory and looted valuables after the death of a worker in the plant.

Thelkuli IIC S R Mohapatra said the workers were arrested on charges of arsons and dacoity, on the basis of a video footage.

Around 100 people were involved in the crime.

Many more are expected to be arrested soon.

Police also recovered valuables from possession of different persons, involved in looting.

A senior officer of the company said production was totally paralysed as more than 4000 workers had left the company apprehending police action.

In another incident a police team led by the Sambalpur's Superintendent of Police, Sanjay Kumar, today conducted raids on illegal kerosene depots of the town and suburbs and seized more than 3000 litres of fuel from four different places.

Mr Kumar said kerosene is piled up with petrol and diesel in different pumps.

At Katapali near Burla, police found the traders using small pumps to extract kerosene from the tankers. Huge quantity of kerosene was seized from there.

Police also seized four drums of adulterated diesel from Baraipali near Ainthapali police station.
