DLW to manufacture 200 engines this year


Varanasi, Jan 2: The Diesel Locomotive Works (DLW), an organisation of Indian Railways, has fixed target for the manufacture of 200 engines in 2008.

The DLW would export 54 engines to be manufactured with an estimated cost of Rs 336 crores. DLW PRO Pradip Mishra said ''It would be the greatest achievement in DLW's history. Hope that we meet the target.'' The DLW had exported four engines to Senegal and Mali in October last year, Mr Mishra said, adding it had created a history last year in January by dedicating 5000th engine to the nation.

He said last year DLW had manufactured 186 engines against the target of 182 fixed by the Railway Ministry. This year it plan manufacture 20 engines.

The DLW had already exported dozens of railway engines to many developing countries, including Bangladesh and Tanzania and earned valuable foreign exchange to the country.
