CPI(M) worker shot dead by Maoist ultras

Purulia, Jan 2 (UNI) A CPI(M) branch secretary was shot dead by Maoist ultras at Besra village under Balarampur police station in this district.

Purulia Additional Superintendent of Police (SP) Pranab Kumar Das said here today that Pahalan Kumar (45) was dragged out from his house and shot dead by the extremists last night.

Later, police rushed to the spot and sent the body for a post-mortem.

This was the second such incident during the past two months in the district. On November 20, Maoist ultras had shot dead another CPI (M) supporter.

Meanwhile, massive combing operations were on in the village and its adjoining areas. However, no arrest was made in this connection so far, the SP added.
