Cong bandh passess off peacefully in AP District

Chittoor, Jan 2: A bandh call given by the Congress party following attack on former District Congress MLA, K Jayachandra Reddy, alias Babu, passed off peacefully and normal life was restored here.

Hundreds of party activitists led by Chittoor Municipal Chairman Sarala Marry, observed dharna yesterday before the Gandhi Statue and staged a rally on the main roads in the temple town.

All business establishments, offices, banks and schools remained closed, marking the bandh.

Talking to newspersons here, Telugu Desam Party MP, Durga Ramakrishna alleged that the police filed false cases and were harassing the party activists.

Ms Ramakrishna alleged that the prime suspect Kishore, a relative of Katari Mohan, who was arrested on Monday, was not produced before the court so far.

The district police, however, had not confirmed the arrest of Mr Kishore.
