CM announces Rs 8.5 lakh help to surgery affected patients

Mumbai, Jan 2 (UNI) Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh announced an assistance of Rs 8.5 lakh to 33 patients, who developed complications after undergoing cataract surgery in an eye operation camp at Parbhani district.

On December 24, an eye operation camp was organised at Parbhani by the district hospital in which 31 patients underwent cataract operations while two other patients underwent some other operations.

After the operations were performed, 28 patients developed serious complications while four others got infected and one of them lost his eyesight.

The patient, who lost complete eyesight, would be paid Rs 50,000 while other 32 patients would be paid Rs 25,000 per head.

Meanwhile, the government has also appointed a one-member committee headed by Grant Medical College Eye Surgeon Dr T P Lahane to inquire into the incident.
