4-day Tata Steel extravaganza kicks off
Jamshedpur, Jan 2 (UNI) Tata Steel's Centenary celebrations Shatrang Mela began with a huge bang here today.
The three-day colourful fiest was declared open by B Muthuraman, Tata Steel Managing Director at Gopal Maidan amidst music, dance and colours.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Muthuraman said, ''To mark its Centenary, Tata Steel has extended its boundaries and involved not only its employees but also embraced the entire society to participate in the celebrations.'' He said the Company was founded with the philosophy that the prime purpose of all enterprises was to improve the quality of life of the society and it did so in the last 100 years.
Tata Steel in its purpose and execution, combines business acumen with caring for the society, a modern well run high technology steel facilities with meeting basic needs of the poor and the needy, business excellence with an equal passion in the service of the society -all these were a rare combination in today's materialistic world, Mr Muthuraman said.
Jharkhand Chief Minister Madhu Koda, who was to inaugurate the Mela, could not turn up. He, however, sent his good wishes to the 100-year-old company.
The four-day celebrations comprises of various cultural programmes including streel carnival, sports, Centenary Run and musical concert.
