Uma gets bail in flag insult case
Bhopal, Jan 1 (UNI) A local court today granted bail to Bharatiya Janashakti Founder-President and former Madhya Pradesh chief minister Uma Bharti in a case relating to insult of the national flag.
Chief Judicial Magistrate Ajay Shrivastav granted bail on surety of Rs 5,000 to Ms Bharti who was present. She was earlier scheduled to appear on January 5. Congress leader Deepchand Yadav submitted the petition on the basis of a magazine photograph that depicted Ms Bharti holding the Tricolour. The plea alleged that Ms Bharti was holding the flag ''like a towel'' in violation of the Indian Flag Code, 2002.
''I am innocent and as a patriot I accord great importance to the Tricolour's prestige. I repose faith in the judicial process'' Ms Bharti later told mediapersons in the court premises.
