State PWD to hold various programmes under safety week

Mumbai, Jan 1 (UNI) The Public Works Department of the Maharashtra Government as part of the National Safety Week has organised blood donation camps, distribution of booklets on road safety, eye check-ups and announcements on road safety through various media.

The National Safety Week is being observed from January 1 to 7.

The release said that over 90,000 people die in road accidents every year, and over 75 per cent of the deaths are due to the drivers' negligence.

The release has quoted PWD Minister Chhagan Bhujbal as saying that road safety should be observed throughout the year rather than a week.
