PM condoles Dr P C Chunder's death

New Delhi, Jan 1 (UNI) Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today condoled the death of Dr Pratap Chandra Chunder, an eminent educationist, legislator, lawyer and author.

''He was a distinguished member of the Union Cabinet in charge of Education and Social Welfare in the late 1970s, and served the State of West Bengal as a legislator and minister in the 1960s,'' the Prime Minister said, in the condolence message.

Describing Dr Chunder as a multi-faceted personality with wide-ranging intellectual interests, Dr Singh said he will be remembered both for his contribution as a legal luminary and as an educationist.

''I convey my sincere condolences to members of his family and his numerous friends and admirers,'' he added.
