Patna, Jan 1 (UNI) Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar today exuded confidence that the State would move fast on the path of development and prosperity in the New Year and sought cooperation from all political parties in his government's endeavours to achieve the goal.
Extending his greetings to the people on New Year's Day, Mr Kumar told reporters here that agriculture was the backbone of the state's economy and its full potential would be exploited for development and prosperity.
''A road map is being prepared to exploit the untapped potential of the agricultural sector and once the state government moves ahead with its strategies in this regard, a new vista of development would be opened in the coming days,'' he stated.
Mr Kumar said his government was committed to implementing various development and welfare schemes in the New Year, adding that 2008 would be observed as the year of programmes implementation and consolidation.
''I have already issued necessary instructions and guidelines to all district magistrates and commissioners for implementing the programmes,'' Mr Kumar emphasised.
He informed that the long-awaited rectification of BPL list in Bihar was in its final stages and after its completion, the Ration and Kirasan coupons would be distributed among the poor on the basis of the revised list,'' he assured.
Mr Kumar also appealed to the media to cover all the latest developments with positive approach and focus on the acheivements of the State government in establishing communal harmony and brotherhood among people of different faiths.
