Hundi collection in Tirumala creates record in December

Tirumala, Jan 1 (UNI) Lord Venkateswara temple in Tirumala created a record when its Hundi collection crossed Rs 40 crore in December 2007, according to Temple Joint Executive Officer G Balaramaiah.

Talking to UNI here yesterday, he said Hundi income every month would fetch about Rs 30 crore, but December surpassed other months due to increase in number of pilgrims, owing to holidays and 'Vaikunta Ekadasi' festival.

Mr Balaramaiah said the annual income from Hundi in 2007, would be about Rs 410 crore.

He said about 50,000 to 60,000 pilgrims worship Lord Balaji every day in the 1300-year-old temple. The annual income of the temple would be around Rs 800 crore, including Hundi collection, he added.
