Ex-Mysore Varsity VC stages dharna

Mysore, Jan 1 (UNI) Former Mysore University Vice-Chancellor D Javare Gowda here today staged a day-long fast urging the Centre to expedite the process for according classical status to Kannada Language.

Talking to newspersons, Prof Gowda said the Centre was showing laxity in the matter.

A meeting of the Kannada Litterateurs had been convened on January 9 in the city to chalk out the future course of action, he said.

When Prof Gowda began his agitation in front of the Kuvempu Trust in Jayalakshmipuram, he was joined by writers and political leaders.

Prof Gowda had been fighting for the cause since last three years.
