De Je Gow stages dharna demanding classical status to Kannada

Mysore, Jan 1 (UNI) Former Mysore University Vice Chancellor D Javare Gowda today staged a day-long fast urging the Union Government to expedite the process of according Classical status to Kannada Language.

When Prof Gowda began his agitation in front of Kuvempu Trust in Jayalakshmipuram, he was joined by Writers, Political leaders.

Several Kannada activists have extended their support.

Speaking to the media, Prof Gowda said that the Centre was unnecessarily dragging its feet on the matter with laxity of the state politicians adding more sluggishness. A meeting of Kannada literatures has been convened on Jan 9 in the city to chalk out future course of action, he announced.

Prof Gowda had been fighting for the cause since last three years and today's protest was fifth during last two years.
