Kolkatans ready to bid farewell to 2007

Kolkata, Dec 31 (UNI) Amidst sound of crackers and the tick of the midnight hour, hundreds of Kolkatans will bid their farewell to 2007.

As the cold winds grew stronger after the Yuletide season, people geared up for the moment when they would have to let go of the bitter sweet moments, which they dearly hung on to until the clock strikes at midnight.

DC Headquaters Vineet Goyal said that about 2,000 plain clothed police force, along with 10 teams of personnel of the detective department, would be specially deployed in various parts of the city to keep peace during the night.

With passes for night clubs and discotheques being sold out and the hotel lounges in the city spilling over with guests and partying people, one can only imagine the intensity of excitement with which the people- both young and old await the coming year. Security has been beefed up in several parts of central Kolkata, where most hotels and discotheques are located. The Fire Brigade will also remain on high alert throughout the night.

Traffic rules will strictly be enforced in most parts of Central Kolkata and special sergeants have been posted to arrest drunken and rash drivers.
