Ex-MLA survives assassination attempt

Chittoor, Andhra Pradesh, Dec 31 (UNI) Former Chittoor MLA C K Babu today survived a bomb attack near the Sai Baba Temple at the Kattamanchi Area this morning even as his gunman was killed and five others were injured.

Police said the explosion was triggered by assailants when the car carrying the Former MLA, his two gunmen and followers, including Town Youth Congress President Siva Reddy, was crossing a culvert.

Mr Babu's gunman Surendranath (36) sustained serious injuries and succumbed en route to hospital.

Mr Babu had survived seven attempts on his life so far. He was initially admitted to the district headquarters hospital and later shifted to the Christian Medical College Hospital at Vellore in Tamil Nadu.
