Two dacoits shot dead in MP

Chhatarpur(MP), Dec 31: Two notorious dacoits Mohan Patel and Rameshwar Patel, who were wanted in connection with several cases of loot and dacoity in Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh, were shot dead in an encounter with the police in neighbouring Panna district early this morning, police said.

The encounter took place at a hillock at Jhinna village in Ajaygarh police station area, Panna's Superintendent of Police Shriniwas Varma said.Mohan Patel, who headed the gang, carried a reward of Rs 25,000, while Rameshwar was carrying a reward of Rs 5,000 only.

Other members of the gang escaped in the encounter. On a tip-off about the gang's movement in Panna National Park and Ken Gharial sanctuary for the last few days, police raided their hideout early this morning, he said.

Mohan Patel was wanted in several cases in Chhatarpur, Pnna, Damoh districts of MP and Chitrakoot district of Uttar Pradesh, Mr Varma added.
