UP reels under cold waves; toll at 62

Lucknow, Dec 30 (UNI) The death toll due to cold has mounted to 62 with three more deaths in the last 24 hrs, as cold wave conditions continue to prevail in the entire Uttar Pradesh.

Due to intense cold and fog, railways and road traffic had been affected badly.

In the last 24 hrs, cold weather had claimed three lives, two in Mirzapur and one in Kaushambi.

According to Met department, Agra was recorded coldest with 3.4 degrees Celsius, which is five degrees below normal temperature.

The temperature it the state capital was recorded at six degrees Celsius though it welcomed bright and sunny afternoon.

Meanwhile, Shahid express, Gwalior express, Gwalior-Barauni express, Punjab Mail and Rapti Sagar express were running one to 15 hours late due to dense fog.

Met department has forecast bright and clear sky in the state and within 48 hrs east UP might witness ground frost.
