UAE ahead of US, UK representing women MPs: UNDP

Dubai, Dec 30 (UNI) The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) said in its report on human resources in 2007-2008 that the UAE is ahead of the US, the UK, France, Canada, Greece, the Republic of Ireland, Japan and Poland with regard to women representation in Parliament.

The report, which was released early this month, showed the UAE tops the Arab countries in the women parliamentary representation.

Women in the UAE's Federal National Council (FNC) represent 22.5 per cent of the total number of members of parliament, Khaleej Times reported.

It said women were better represented in the parliaments of Seychelle Islands, Singapore, Costa Rica, Cuba, Argentine, Mexico, Belarus, Lithuania, Australia, New Zealand, Iceland and other countries as compared to the UAE.
