Alibag, Dec 30 (UNI) Maharashtra NCP vice-president and former minister Dattajirao Khanvilkar has demanded cancellation of Reliance and Tata power projects in the Alibag taluka of Raigad district, fearing that the proposed projects may cause pollution there.

Mr Khanvilkar, in a memorandum to the district guardian minister Sunil Tatkare, said the villagers are against these projects from the onset and they have been holding 'andolans' (agitations) against the same. Villagers have also filed a petition in the Bombay High Court in this regard.

He further said the way a proposed coal-based energy project at village Girye in the Sindhudurg district was cancelled after being opposed by the villagers, similarly, the proposed coal-based project in Alibag should be cancelled considering its ill effects on the people's health and environment.

Mr Khanvilkar, in the memorandum, has sought a meeting with Chief Minister to discuss the matter with him.
