Shimla, Dec 30 (UNI) The BJP today expressed optimism that its victories in Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh elections in less than a week will catapult it to power in the Centre in the near future.

Party's national vice president Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi told reporters here late last evening that the party's back to back victories in these two states would take the party closer to winning the next Lok Sabha polls.

Besides, it would also take the party's chief ministerial candidate Lal Krishan Advani closer to the country's top post, he added.

Mr Naqvi said the defeat of the Congress in Himachal has proved that they had been saying since long that the people of the state had rejected Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and AICC president Sonia Gandhi's agenda for the state and country.

The party's victory in the Gujarat and Himachal would decide the next course of national politics,'' he said.

He said the party's victory in Gujarat was more sweet since the party had maintained its stranglehold after the state despite being in power for about 12 years now.

''While the Congress was swept away in Himachal Pradesh in an anti-incumbency wave, it did not happen in Gujarat where the party has been in power for the past 12 years,'' he added.
