Gas leak creates panic among villagers
Tiruchirapalli, Dec 30 (UNI) Four women swooned as a gas tube burst at a private gas filling station at Sannasipatti village on the Tiruchirapalli-Dindigul National Highway near here today.
Police said the gas tube, which was transferring Anhydrous Amonia to an underground storage from a tanker lorry, bursted, emanating heavy smoke in the area.
The women, working in a nearby field, swooned following the leak.
On information, Fire Service Personnel rushed to the spot and diluted the gas in the atmosphere.
However, the villagers of Sannasipatti, South Baganur and Innammathur vacated their houses, fearing any adverse effect.
State Transport Minister K N Nehru, Mr Paranjothi, MLA (AIADMK) visited the affected areas.
The villagers appealed to them to close down the gas filling plant and ensure their safety.
UNI
