Ex-MLA, 3 others attacked in TN

Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu, Dec 30 (UNI) Four people, including former AIADMK Legislator M Velmurugan (46), were injured when a group of unidentified people attacked them at Mannarkoilvilakku area, about 45 km from here, today.

State special branch police sources said Mr Velmurugan, also the Secretary of Jayalalithaa Peravai Ambasamudram unit, was returning to his native Ambasamudram along with three of his associates, after purchasing calendars from Sivakasi when a six-member gang intercepted their car and attacked them with wooden logs and iron rods.

Hearing their pleas for help, passerby rushed to the spot. On seeing the crowd, the gang managed to escape.

The motive behind the attack was not known immediately.
