Chennai, Dec 30: Mr Ajai Nigam, who had served in various capacities in the Department of Explosives, has been appointed as Chief Controller of Explosives (Head of the Department), Petroleum and Explosives Safety Organisation (PESO), Nagpur.
Mr Nigam, a postgraduate in Chemical Engineering from Harcourt Butler Technologies Institute, Kanpur and a gold medalist for securing the first position, joined the department of Explosives in 1975.
He held positions as Deputy Controller of Explosvies, Controller of Explosives, Deputy Chief Controller of Explosives and Joint Chief Controller of Explosives. He had served in Chennai, Agra, Nagpur, Bhopal and Kolkotta.
Mr Nigam had headed the largest circle office, East Circle, Kolkota, covering West Bengal, Bihar and all the northeast states.
He was also appointed member of a 'Task Force' headed by Security (Fire), West Bengal government for strengthening safety, fire fighting facilities in all the petroleum installations in West Bengal.
Mr Nigam, a member of Institution of Engineers (India) was enrolled for PhD programme under University Grants Commission in 1973 and during the course of his research period, he joined as a lecturer in Chemical Engineering in the same institute. He had presented many papers at various national and international seminars.
Mr Nigam also acquired a Post Graduate Diploma in Personal Management and LLB Degree from Nagpur University. As the head of the PESO, he was involved in various activities, responsible to ensure public safety at large.
