Ten prisoner missing from Sonepat jail, 3 officials nabbed

Sonepat, Dec 29 (UNI) Ten prisoners were found missing from the jail here late last night following which 3 jail officials were arrested for their alleged involvement in letting them out without any legal permission.

According to DSP Hari Kailash, the Superintendent of jail R S Mandiwal has reportedly gone underground after the Inspector General of Prisons, M S Maan conducted a surprise raid in the prison last night and found 10 convicted prisoners missing from their barracks.

The arrested officials included Deputy Superintendent Ram Kishan Khatak, Assistant Superintendent Ram Phal and Head Warden Duli Chand. A case under section sections 222, 465 and 468 has been registered against them and they will be produced in the court tomorrow, the DSP said.

According to reports, on a tip-off, the IG Prisons along with other officers had raided the jail premises late last night and found 10 convicts, five each from barracks number 27 and 16, missing.

The prison has been in the news in the recent past following recovery of mobile sets and sim cards from the jail inmates by the district police after which cases were registered against the users and service providers.
