Murder charges filed against couple from UP

Nashik, Dec 26 (UNI) Police have filed murder charges against a couple from Uttar Pradesh for their alleged involvement in the suspicious death case of a man found dead in a hotel room in the town.

According to police, Rajesh Srivastava was found dead in the room of Hotel Bhagyashree in Manmad, where he was staying with his wife, Suneeta Srivastava, during their tour of Shirdi.

Rajesh was a District Labour Information Officer at Ranchi, Jharkhand, and his wife is a teacher in Army Public School at Ranchi.

The accused couple, Rakesh Singh and Archana Singh, residents of Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, was also staying in the same hotel.

On Monday, the Singhs offered tea to the Srivastavas. They had allegedly mixed some substance in the tea to make them unconscious with the motive of robbery.

After consuming the tea the Srivastavas lost consciousness and the Singhs robbed them of Rs 3,000 cash, a mobile phone, an i-pod and a gold ring, totalling to Rs 25,000 and fled from the scene.

Meanwhile, due to overdose of the substance, Rajesh died.

When Sunita regained her consciousness, she realised that her husband was dead and the valuables were missing.

Police have filed a case against the Singhs under sections 302, 392, 201 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code in the matter. Charges have also been filed against the hotel owner and a waiter for destruction of evidence. Further investigations are in progress.
