Measures on to prevent accidents during new year

Chennai, Dec 26 (UNI) The traffic police has taken measures to prevent accidents during the New Year celebrations and warned stern action against those who violated the traffic rules.

The enforcement activities, particularly during evening and night hours would be tightened up from this evening onwards, a police press release here said.

A special drive along with various organisations, like traffic wardens, Hyundai volunteers and home guards would be organised throughout the city, it said.

This drive would be more intensified on Kamaraj Salai, East Coast Road, Anna Salai, GST road and Poonamallee high road and other roads prone to accidents till the new year.

In the special drive, cases against drunken driving, rash driving, over speeding, cell phone driving, tripple riding, drivers and occupants without seat belt would be concentrated upon, it said.

The traffic police requested the road users to cooperate in observing traffic rules to make the city incident free on new year.
