Curfew in Orissa continues for second day

Bhubaneswar, Dec 26: Curfew continued for the second day on Wednesday in four towns of Orissa"s Kandhamal District following the killing of a youth and the ransacking of three churches.

Violence broke out in Phulbani, Baliguda, Daringibadi and Brahmanigaon as Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) activists ransacked three churches in Baliguda area disrupted Christmas festivities on Tuesday. VHP and Bajrang Dal activists blocked traffic in many areas and moved in groups to enforce a shutdown called in protest against the attack on anti-conversion leader Laxmanananda Saraswati. Around 13 people have been taken into custody in connection with the attack on Saraswati.

Seven others were detained in connection with a clash between two groups over erection of a decorated arch at Brahmani village of Daringbadi area, which is also in the Kandhamal district. Eight people were injured in this incident.
