Suicide attacks is al-Qaeda's conspiracy to disrupt Pak polls

{image-al qaeda hunt_26122007.jpg news.oneindia.in}Islamabad, Dec 26: Pakistan"s top security brass believe that the recent suicide attacks are part of a vicious campaign launched by al-Qaeda and its allied militant organisations to disrupt the January 8 elections.

Security officials have termed the recurring suicide attacks, including the recent Charsadda bombing which targeted former Interior Minister, Aftab Ahmed Khan Sherpao, as a part of an al-Qaeda plan to derail the electoral process. The Charsadda bombing, which killed over 56 people, was followed by another suicide attack, a day later, on a military convoy in Swat, killing a dozen of people including some security personnel.

"Al-Qaeda wants to keep this war on terror theatre open and undermine any effort that results in peace and stability in Pakistan where it is rooted deeply along with neighbouring Afghanistan," an official said requesting anonymity.

Having understood the scheme of things devised by al-Qaeda, Pakistan"s security brass has dissociated the Waziristan-based local Taliban from the global terrorism network through a process of dialogue, he added.

According to The Nation, another official admitted that efforts have been initiated by the security brass to counter al-Qaeda"s plan aimed at derailing the electoral process.
