AIADMK to protest "inadequate" flood relief

Chennai, Dec 26 (UNI) AIADMK General Secretary J Jayalalithaa today said her party would stage a demonstration at Thiruvarur on December 28 to condemn the DMK Government for ''inadequate'' flood relief works in the district.

In a statement here, she said standing paddy crops in several acres were damaged in the recent rains.

Stating that the livelihood of farmers and their families had been affected to a great extent, she alleged that the DMK Government had not come forward to provide any relief to them.

Ms Jayalalithaa charged the Government with cheating the farmers by not providing Rs 1,000 per quintal as procurement price for paddy.

She said Party Farmers Wing secretary Durai Govindarajan, Thiruvarur district secretary R Kamaraj and other AIADMK functionaries would take part in the demonstration.
