TRS to obstruct Polavaram, Pulichintala Projects

Hyderabad, Dec 25 (UNI) Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) President K Chandrasekhar Rao today said his party would obstruct the Polavaram and Pulichintala projects in the state.

Addressing a press conference here, he said the party would move to High Court and Supreme Court in this regard.

Stating that about 274 Girijan villages would be submerged due to the Polavaram project, he said instead of taking up big projects like Polavaram, the government should construct small dams to provide water to the Telangana region.

In another press conference today, TDP Leader M V Mysoora Reddy alleged that the government had taken up the project without obtaining necessary clearance from various agencies.

The National Environmental Appellate Authority (NEAA) had quashed the clearance given by Ministry of Environment and Forests to Polavaram project, he said.

Meanwhile, Andhra Pradesh Major Irrigation Minister Ponnala Lakshmaiah said the state government would approach the Andhra Pradesh High Court, seeking a stay on the NEAA order.
