Tehsildar arrested for threatening public

Amritsar, Dec 25 (UNI) The Punjab Police have arrested a Tehsildar for issuing threats to the public in his office in the sub divisional town of Baba Bakala in the district yesterday, police today stated.

According to official sources, Tehsildar K K Verma who was under the influence of liquor was taken into custody by the police outside his office following a complaint by two farmers who had gone to his office to get the land which they had purchased registered in their names. The complainants alleged that the Tehsildar waived his licensed revolver at them and refused to register the land deal.

The two farmers then lodged a complaint with the Beas police, following which the Tehsildar was taken into custody. He was later arrested under section 506 of the IPC and the Arms Act.

Contradicting the police version, the Tehsildar who was remanded to judicial custody, alleged that he was picked up by the police from his house last night. He denied having threatened anyone.
