Puri, Dec 25 (UNI) Servitors of Jagannath temple today burnt the effigy of Delhi Chief minister Sheila Dixit in front of the shrine in protest against her government's alleged inaction to stop the untimely Rath yatra organised by the ISKCON devotees in the national capital on Sunday.

They also burnt the effigy of social activist Swami Agnivesh for advocating entry of all devotees into the 12th century shrine.

The Jagannath Temple chief administrator had earlier requested Ms Dixit to ensure that the ISKON devotees did not organise the ratha yatra which was not prescribed in the religious text.

A number of young servitors who have formed ''Thenga Vahini'' armed with lathis shouted slogans against her for not responding to the request of the temple authority.

As per the religious dictum of the Jagannath cult rath yatra could be organised only in the month of Ashadha.

The Resident Commissioner of the state too was asked to pursue the issue with the Delhi government but it had little effect as the rath yatra was organised as announced earlier by the ISKON devotees.

This has infuriated the servitors of the shrine.

Senior and head priests of the shrine, however, stayed away from the agitation.
