Daparture from tradition: Girl lights father's pyre

Gorakhpur, Dec 25 (UNI) In a radical departure from tradition, a girl lit the pyre of her father on beaches of the river Rapti here.

According to Hindu beliefs, entry of girls is prohibited in crematoriums.

Bechu Lal Gupta (50), a tailor, died of a prolonged illness yesterday. Lal did not have a son.

Therefore, breaking all traditions and beliefs, his daughter lit his pyre.

Besides, Bechu's better half and other seven daughters were also present, while his mortal remains were being consigned to flames.
