Mayawati hopes for better performance in Himachal polls

Lucknow, Dec 24 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister and Bahujan Samaj Party president Mayawati today hoped that her party would perform better in the just-concluded Himachal Pradesh assembly elections.

Talking to reporters here, Ms Mayawati said her party managed three per cent of the total votes polled in the Gujarat elections.

''Most of the BSP candidates lost by a slender margin of 300 to 5000 votes,'' she said.

The BSP had fielded 166 candidates for the 182-seat contest where BJP returned for a record third time in a row.

The BSP once again drew a blank in the Gujarat assembly elections for the fifth time. With this, Ms Mayawati's aspirations to upset the electoral fortunes of BJP and the Congress were shattered.
