J&K CM honours eminent Dogri folk singer

Jammu, Dec 24 (UNI) An eminent Dogri folk singer was felicitated by Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad for being awarded the prestigious Sangeet Natak Academy Puraskar.

At a function here this evening, Dogri folk singer Ghulam Muhammad was honoured by the Chief Minister, who in his message of felicitation, said that it was a matter of pride for the lovers of Dogri language and the people of Jammu&Kashmir as a whole.

''The award had gone to a highly deserving person, who had contributed to the development of Dogri music in a major way,'' adding Mr Azad said that the melodious voice in which he sang Dogri songs made him a household name and his popularity transcended the borders of the state.

''I am delighted to learn that Ghulam Muhammad has been awarded the country's prestigious Sangeet Natak Academy Puraskar and extend my heartiest felicitations to the renowned singer for bringing laurels to the state,'' Mr Azad said.
