Mumbai, Dec 24 (UNI) The Standing Committee of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) today decided to form a committee of group of leaders to decide on the free distribution of flavoured milk scheme in the civic schools.

The civic body has stalled the distribution of flavoured milk in the schools after around 48 students of two BMC schools fell ill in the last two weeks complaining of stomach pain and vomitting. They were hospitalised in the civic-run hospitals for treatment.

The leaders belonging to various political parties will form a committee and present their views to the administration in the next few days, after which a decision would be taken.

The corporation was also looking at other options, if the free milk distribution was to be discontinued.

Last week, at the Standing Committee meeting, Municipal Commissioner Jairaj Phatak had stated that the corporation can distribute bananas, biscuits, eggs or even cash, if milk is discontinued.
