All secular parties should oppose BJP: CPI

Tirupati, Dec 24: The Communist Party of India National Secretary D Raja today said all secular parties should unite to save the country from Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Addressing a public meeting on the concluding day of the 23rd state convention of the party here, he said BJP's landslide victory in Gujarat assembly poll was a clear indication that unless all secular parties were united, it would be well-nigh impossible to stop BJP's march from Ahmedabad to New Delhi.

Mr Raja alleged that BJP's success in the poll was a threat to the nation and all democratic parties, including Congress should devise a strategy to oppose the communal and divisive forces vehemently.

The CPI leader also said the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance Government (UPA) should realise that unless it stops its anti-people policies and bring economic prosperity and growth to the downtrodden and toiling masses, other states would follow the footsteps of Gujarat.

CPI leader S Sudhakar Reddy and the party state secretary K Narayana, were among others, who spoke on the occasion.
