Speaker Patel re-elected in Guj polls, creates history

Ahmedabad, Dec 23 (UNI) Speaker of outgoing Gujarat Assembly Mangaldas Patel (BJP) has created history by retaining Manasa Constituency of Gandhinagar district.

This is probably the first time in the history of the Gujarat Assemly elections that a speaker has been re-elected.

Mr Patel was locked in a triangular contest with Congress' Babu Thakor and Independent Amrut Patel.

All previous speakers, including the late Natvarlal Shah and Dhirubhai Shah, could not make it to the Assembly in their second bid in elections.
