More women made entry to 12th Gujarat Assembly

Ahmedabad, Dec 23 (UNI) The 12th Gujarat Assembly will have more women than the previous Assembly, an initial analysis of the data available shows.

While all results are yet to be announced, 15 women candidates have already made entry to the new Assembly. Of the 22 candidates fielded by the BJP, 14 have been elected to the 182-member House state Assembly.

Education Minister Anandiben Patel has been re-elected from the Patan Assembly constituency. One Congress woman candidate has also made it to the House.

The 11th Assembly had only 12 women members with 11 from the BJP.

The dissident leader Ramilaben, contesting on a Congress ticket, had failed to make her entry to the House.

The Congress has fielded 14 women candidates while the BSP five.

In all, 88 women candidates had contested the Gujarat Assembly elections this year.
