Police lathicharges mob, several injured

Ferozabad, Dec 22 (UNI) Several persons were today wounded, when police lathicharged a mob protesting the murder of a school principal here.

Santosh Thakarey (49) -- the principal of Sant Gyaneshwar School -- and his wife were fired upon by armed assailants in Rasoolpur area late last night, police today said.

While Santosh succumbed on the spot, his wife was rushed to hospital with life threatening wounds.

Irked over the incident, a mob of students and locals blocked the Kanpur-Agra National Highway to demand immediate arrest in the case.

Seeing the situation getting out of control, police lathicharged the protestors wounding some of them seriously.

Meanwhile, a named FIR was lodged against three persons in connection with the murder.

Police in strength was deployed to prevent fresh violence.
