International Airport should be manage by private company: Mahat

Kathmandu, Dec 22 (UNI) Nepal's Finance Minister Ram Sharan Mahat has said the management of only International Airport of Nepal should be handed over to a private party.

''We do not have any option but to bring in the private sector if Tribhuvan International Airport is to be made capable of handling the growing traffic,'' Mr Mahat was quoted as saying in local media yesterday.

He said ''the private sector should be allowed to run the national flag carrier Nepal Airlines Corporation (NAC) in order to rejuvenate it.'' ''Wherever the public sector is involved, things start going bad.

Look at TIA and NAC,'' he said.

Stating that the travel advisories issued by some countries were too harsh, he asked them to tone them down.

He also said that Kathmandu has the potential of becoming the tourism capital of South Asia, and that work should be done in this regard.

''It is matchless compared to other South Asian cities,'' Kantipur quoted him as saying.
